Thanksgiving

By meganinmontana

Mostly caught up now. I went to two showings of Rocky Horror over Halloween weekend, but don’t really have pictures because i was taking pictures of the event instead of pictures of myself.

More importantly, i went to Dave’s house in Wyoming for Thanksgiving. And it was a good weekend. Again, i don’t have too many pictures from the holiday, but i DO have pictures from when we went to cut their Christmas tree on Friday! They get a Christmas tree permit every year, drive into the national forest near Laramie, and cut a tree down for the holiday. It was GREAT!

It was also snowing. But that made it better. I even helped a little bit.

After we got the tree, we went into Laramie to look at some shops and get dinner. Laramie is about an hour from Cheyenne, which is where Dave’s parents live, and about a half hour from the forest where we got the tree. It has a nice little downtown, and we were all able to get soup and other warm things to eat, bc by the time we got out of the forest we were COLD. But, i have new [to me] snow pants that i got at the thrift store for $15 and work like a dream. So that was great. They’re way better than the rain pants i used last winter.

Saturday, I got a tour of Cheyenne and then we went to the Christmas Parade. One of the things in Cheyenne: the largest train locomotive ever to run in the U.S. I’m standing in front holding out my hand for scale.

The Christmas Parade was fun, albeit a little cold. and dark, so the photos didn’t turn out as well as they could have. But the parade included:

Regular Christmas stuff.

Crazy bikes with Christmas lights on them. This one has four wheels.

Hot air balloon people.

And my personal favorite, Christians for Israel. There are few things as disconcerting as people in a CHRISTMAS parade running around in sparkly vests with Israeli flags, all to techno dance music. It was kind of amazing, in a bizarre way. And apparently, they’re in the parade every year.

That about covers Thanksgiving. I had a really good time, and it was nice to spend some time where Dave is from. Next is Christmas, and I’ll be back in NJ Saturday night (Dec 20th). And Dave will be out to visit January 6th-9th (he gets in the 5th around midnight, so that doesn’t really count), so hopefully most of you will meet him then!
